Dental ImplantsAn Overview
There is a good chance that you will have to deal with missing teeth at some point in your life. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), the average adult between the ages of 20 and 64 has three or more decayed or missing teeth.
Modern dentistry offers many solutions to replace those missing teeth. For some people, dentures and dental bridges do not provide a comfortable and stable solution for their missing teeth. Dental implants, however, offer a natural and durable solution for patients suffering from tooth loss.
East Hills Dental Associates offers all types of dental implants to patients from Manhasset, NY. Whether you are missing one, a few, or an entire row of teeth, Dr. Richard Sousa can devise a solution to replace them utilizing teeth implants. During your consultation, Dr. Sousa will first need to determine if you qualify for implants.
You will need to be in good overall health, be able to undergo minor surgery, have good oral health, and have enough jawbone. Having a good amount of healthy bone is very important to support the implants. Dr. Sousa will use x-rays, study models, or CT-Scans to determine if you have enough bone to place the implants. He also provides comprehensive dental services in and around Manhasset, New York.
What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is actually a titanium screw-like post that has to be surgically implanted into the jawbone. This will be used to support a dental restoration that will replace your missing teeth. The implant will also replace the missing tooth root, a major benefit that traditional tooth replacement options do not offer.
Attached to the implant is a small connector piece called an abutment. The abutment is screwed onto the implant and will hold a dental crown if you replace a single tooth. If you are missing multiple teeth, you may have several implants placed that will collectively hold a dental bridge or a denture.
