Why is Routine Dental Care Important?

Dr. Richard SousaDr. Melody Ahdoot, and their dental team provide restorative, cosmetic, and general dental care to patients. Preventative dental care is a part of general dentistry. With preventive care, we help stop worsening dental problems with prompt dental care. Routine dental visits are a part of preventative dentistry. Our team can find emerging issues at cleanings, examinations, x-rays, and one-on-one consultations and prevent future oral health problems. Dr. Sousa and Dr. Ahdoot offer dental care to patients at East Hills Dental Associates in Roslyn Heights, NY. Regular dental care is an essential part of maintaining long-lasting oral health.

Dental Care in Roslyn Heights, NY

During routine dental appointments, we provide multiple services for our patients:

Dental Cleanings

Our dental hygienists provide dental cleanings to remove plaque and tartar from the mouth. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria buildup. Once plaque hardens, it becomes tartar. It can be difficult to remove tartar or calculus, even with regular brushing and flossing. Because of this, we recommend that patients visit us twice a year for regular dental cleanings. Our hygienists use special dental tools to remove bacterial buildup. Scaling and root planing can provide a deeper clean to prevent gum disease. During scaling, our hygienists clean around and beneath the gums. Root planing smooths and removes buildup from the tooth roots.

X-rays and Screenings

We take dental x-rays to look for various dental problems, from orthodontic issues to wisdom teeth. Our digital x-rays allow us to see the teeth, gums, and jaw details. We also screen for problems like oral cancer and gum disease. For example, our team looks for signs of oral cancer, including white and red patches in the mouth. Signs of gum disease that we look for include red, sensitive, swollen, and bleeding gums. We will recommend treatment if we find more severe symptoms, including gum recession or severe plaque and tartar buildup.

Professional Consultations

Dr. Sousa and his dentists offer consultations to patients if they have emerging dental concerns or require further treatment. During a dental consultation, patients will learn about their treatment options and will be able to voice any questions or concerns. Our dentists will explain the patient’s dental problem as well as how they are diagnosing and treating them. Then, the patient and the doctor will agree on a treatment plan. Each treatment plan is customized to the needs of each individual. We encourage our patients to call us if they have noticed changes in their oral health. Early, preventative care is the best way to tackle dental problems head-on.
